Some feel pretty weird about discussing sex in church. Some take it a step further and say that the two words “Sex” and “God” shouldn’t even appear next to each other. Why are we taking such a bold approach to the subjects of sex and spirituality?

We believe that the God of the Bible is the designer of sex and He has intended it for procreation and pleasure within the covenant of marriage as is described in scripture. Our desire is to bring a Biblical approach to the subject of sex and hopefully clear up some confusion for those inside and outside the church. We also hope to see sexual redemption in those who are plagued by the mistakes and experiences of the past.

Our messages on the YOU, SEX & GOD teaching series have expounded specific sections of scripture, including 1 Corinthians, as a basis for our teaching. You can check out our sermon audio section and hopefully find our approach to be Biblical and relevant. These are principles we see throughout early Christianity in the books of Acts.

Our culture has turned sex into a god (lower case ‘g’).  To bring correction to the worship of sex we are taking a bold approach. To get the word out there to those who are spiritually lost, we have simply used the 3 words You, Sex & God (capitalized) as subject matter titles. We are addressing how as individuals our sexuality relates to our relationship with God. How our sexuality needs to be God centered.

The true source of sex is God. We have also leaned on the idea from culture that people see each other as sex gods or see themselves as a sex god (lower case). Of course, when addressing the subject of sex and God many feel offended by this and believe the two subjects should not be considered in the same arena. However, we disagree with this. To be sexually mature (sexuality God’s way), you need to be spiritually mature (have a robust relationship with God). This goes the other way too.

Ephesians 5:31-32 says “Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh. This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church.” (bold added by us)

The apostle Paul clearly connects Christ’s relationship to the church with the sexual union between a husband and wife. If scripture is so direct about connecting sex and God, why shouldn’t we? God does not consider the association of Himself with the subject of sex to be a negative, but an example of a profound mystery! As Christians we have much to learn in this area.
