EDGEWATER CHURCH

At Trinity Church our purpose is to enjoy and share the grace of Jesus; we seek to fulfill this calling in Edgewater by enriching and blessing our neighborhood. From the beautification of our exterior, to justice initiatives, to shining the light of the gospel, we strive to be a church for and with Edgewater. Our prayer is for a spiritual renewal and awakening around us and through us.

A CHURCH FOR EDGEWATER

We are always looking for opportunities to make a tangible difference. Our church facility is a well recognized and beloved feature in the area; we are strategically located by the Thorndale Redline, Senn High School, Whole Foods, the Edgewater Public Library, and Broadway Armory Park. Among other things, our church community runs an annual Easter Egg hunt and Movie Night to serve families and children.

We love the diverse and vibrant community of Edgewater. With popular international restaurants, a family friendly feel, multiple-generations, and a wide variety of ethnic backgrounds, Edgewater is a world-class neighborhood in a world-class city. We are honored to play-a-part of such a dynamic environment.

HOW DID TRINITY CHURCH END UP IN EDGEWATER?

Trinity was founded in April 2009 and has moved around several times before landing in Edgewater. Here is a summary of our church’s journey so far…

2005-2009: A group called Fusion, led by Tim & Chloe Steinke, gather on the Northside of Chicago running the Alpha course.

2008: Matt and Heather Sweetman join Jubilee Church St. Louis for a year of Church Planting Training.

2009: The Sweetmans arrive in Chicago to start a new work and are joined by the Fusion group, about a dozen or so people, who soon become Destination Church.

2010: The new church moves from a Coffee Shop by the Addison Brown Line to ComedySportz Theatre.

2011: The church moves to Inter-American Magnet school by Wrigley Field after outgrowing the comedy club.

2012: The church starts the Tangible Community building fund and partner with New Creation in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe.

2013: The church raises funds for Children’s Home + Aid here in Chicago and Victory Ministries in the Philippines serving those affected by a natural disaster.

2014: The church starts the annual Church on the Beach service celebrating public baptisms of transformed lives.

2015: The church raises a Special Offering to help launch One Tribe in Nairobi, Kenya.

2016: The church starts “Share the Grace” outreach focus. We also send a kids club team to One Tribe Church in Nairobi, Kenya for the first time.

2017: The church launches a second morning service to accommodate more growth.

2018: The church changes its name from Destination to Trinity with a desire to be more contextualized. We receive notice during the summer to vacate the school by the end of the year. This began our search for a new location, which ultimately landed us in Edgewater.

2019: Trinity become tenants of the church building in Edgewater previously used by Bethany Evangelical Lutheran on the first Sunday of the year—with no heat!

2020-present: The story continues…
