Join Destination Church Small Groups as we come together for an evening of prayer and worship on Tuesday November 23. Location and time are below.
A quick survey of the church in the New Testament finds a movement of new Christians committed to prayer. Every major event in the book of Acts is closely tied to a prayer gathering of believers.
Here are some examples of biblical prayer gatherings:
- 3,000 people become Christians after an extravagant time of prayer: Acts 2.
- The first Christians devoted themselves to gathering for prayer. Acts 2:42.
- A lame beggar is healed as Peter & John are going to a prayer gathering: Acts 3:1-10.
- The believers gather together to celebrate and pray after a time of persecution: Acts 4:21-31.
- Church leaders specifically devote themselves to prayer. Acts 6:4.
- They appointed seven men to do administration, laid hands on them and pray together. Acts 6:6.
- Peter and John are sent to Samaria to lay hands on and pray for all the new believers to receive the Holy Spirit. Acts 8:14.
- Peter is put in prison and the church gathers for prayer. Acts 12:5.
- A bunch of differently gifted Christians were gathered for prayer and fasting. This prayer gathering initiated the spread of the gospel into Europe, pretty significant prayer gathering! Acts 13:1-3.
- They appoint elders in the church through prayer and fasting. Acts 14:23.
- On the way to a prayer gathering Paul casts a demon out of a fortune teller. Acts 16:16.
- A jailer is converted after hearing Paul and Silas praying and singing together. Acts 16:25-34.
- The believers have a spontaneous farewell prayer gathering for Paul. Acts 20:36-38.
- People gather for a time of healing prayer after Paul see’s a sick man healed. Acts 28:7-10.
