Trinity Church: A Bible-Believing Church in Chicago

Trinity is a Bible-believing church in Chicago. You might think that the term “bible-believing” should go without saying, but sadly, many churches that were once faithful to God’s Word have strayed from sound teaching.

What Does It Mean to Be a Bible-Believing Church?

As a general rule, a Bible-believing church is one that teaches that the Bible is the inspired, inerrant Word of God, and that it is the final authority for Christians in regards to faith, practice, and correct doctrine.

In short, a Bible-believing church believes that what the Bible says is true, and that the Bible should guide everything that churches do and teach.

What We Believe about the Bible at Trinity Church Chicago

Consider the following excerpt from our church’s statement of faith:

We believe that only the sixty-six books of the Bible are the inspired, and therefore inerrant, Word of God. It is the final authority for all we believe and how we are to live.

This belief that God speaks to us and directs us from the words of the Bible is based on the following passages of scripture that we would encourage you to read:

  • Matthew 5:18
  • John 10:35; 17:17
  • 2 Timothy 3:16-17
  • 2 Peter 1:20-21

Since the Bible is the key to everything we do at Trinity Church, we wanted to provide a few examples of how its centrality is lived out in our church on a week-to-week basis.

Bible-Based Sermons

All of our sermons are focused on teaching what the Bible has to say. Typically, each sermon is based on a main passage of scripture (although multiple passages can also be incorporated). Our goal is to explain what each passage means, how it points to the message and person of Jesus, and how we can apply it in our daily lives.

Some of our sermons focus on specific themes like heaven, or apologetics, while others teach a book of the Bible section by section, such as Nehemiah, or the Gospel of Mark. In either case, the Bible is central to our preaching and teaching at Trinity Church.

Bible-Based Worship

The Bible instructs us to worship God in spirit and in truth (John 4:23–24), as well as to encourage one another with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs (Ephesians 5:18–19). The Bible also says that the word of Christ should dwell in us richly (Colossians 3:16).

While “worship” refers to more than just singing, worshipping God through songs is an important way that we can adore God. Afterall, the largest book of the Bible is full of worship songs (Psalms).

In an effort to base our worship practices on the teachings of the scripture, at Trinity Church we seek to sing songs that (1) glorify Jesus, (2) encourage one another as the body of Christ, and (3) drive the truths of God’s Word deep into our hearts.

At our church, we may not sing every song on Christian radio, but that is because we aim to carefully select songs for our congregation that fit the above criteria. As a Bible-believing church, we love singing songs together that highlight Scripture.

Bible-Based Small Groups

As a Bible-believing church, we take the Bible’s “one another” commands seriously. That’s why we have Small Groups.

The New Testament gives us over 50 different commands to love one another, serve one another, welcome one another, pray for one another, and encourage one another. Since Scripture clearly calls Christians to live this way, our church wants to have a practical way to obey these commands. Small Groups make that possible.

Small Groups at Trinity Church are weekly gatherings of 10–15 people who meet to study the Bible, pray together, and encourage each other.

We want everyone who attends Trinity to prioritize joining a Small Group—it’s a primary way we build real community. To learn more, visit our Small Groups page.
